Depends. Vocoder typically is equated with things like this video; a kind of robotic, futuristic sound. Talkbox is more of a funky thing. I think the vocoder is better because it can retain far more parameters of sound. I'd recommend a rackmount vocoder over a set top synth like this one because they can take any kind of carrier (a vocoder is taking a modulator, for example in this it's the guy's voice, and using it against a carrier, which in this is this synth's built-in sounds).

u just talk and the synth worrys about the pitch. so u can just talk at the same pitch but when you play it sounds like ure singing

It depends. The talk box vibe doesn't rub me the right way because so many modern rap songs are layered with it, most of them fairly terrible. It was a big thing in the 70's; if you've ever seen someone singing with a thin tube in their mouth, that's a talk box. They sound quite a bit different and it all depends on what sound you prefer, I believe the vocoder is much more useful because you can run vocals, drums, any sound through it and get a cool effect.

Ha - funny! I never really paid attention to it before. I see lots of other people adding the "R" too. Why is that such a common mistake? Maybe because of the word "recorder" or something. Oh well. I still need to use the equipment more in any case. Thanks for pointing that out! :D
