Strat Shootout: Squier vs. Fender

In which I pit a Standard (Made in Mexico) Fender Stratocaster against a chinese-made Affinity Series Squier Strat. I'm trying to decide once and for all which one I like better. You'd think it'd be a slam dunk for Fender, but their bargain-brand model has a lot going for it too, like twang that won't quit.
A better comparison would have been a Mexican Strat vs. an American one, but somebody wouldn't let me spend my family's economic stimulus check on one!
My conclusion: they are almost neck and neck, but I prefer the Fender, obviously. But Squiers are pretty decent - I have lots of videos on here where I'm playing that one.
That is a Vox AD50VT amp I'm playing through with a variety of clean and distorted settings. This whole video is really just six minutes of mindless self-indulgence and an excuse for me to go wheedly-wheedly-whee and convince guitar geeks to watch it.

| in the end, unless the tone suddenly dies or the intonation is off, it's all a matter of taste. the real point is: a lot of people (incl. the very most of the longtime players) just don't want to be seen playing a cheap instrument - even if it's a good one. |

| I have a squier affinity series guitar, I can't really afford to buy a new guitar, so I am thinking about getting some new pickups for it, maybe something crazy like the seymour duncan blackouts. It's important I say, its a very nice guitar, well made, nice action etc. I guess what im really wanting to know is, is the difference in the pickups or in the build materials? Or how much difference can be accredited to each factor? |

| Actually, the squier neck is more accurate in relation to the skunk stripe. Rosewood board fenders shouldn't have a skunk stripe. |

| I have a fair number of strats, but I modify most of mine. My two favorites are a Fender unmodified standard strat HSS, and a Squier affinity series strat that I put a Fender CS neck pickup, A SD JB Jr. middle pickup, and a '68 Gibson SG bridge pickup in. It makes every sound imaginable. |

| argh.. squier sounds horrible... A really great squier is the new Classic Vibe. Talking about Squiers, the old ones, made in Japan (15 years ago) werent good... they were great! I tested one this week and they were simply amazing. |

| I have a Strat Squire exactly like the Fender Strat you have, except it doesn't have a humbucker or a floating whammy. The humbucker kinda' ruins the real sound of the strat, no offense or anything. |

| None taken. I just had a problem with hum with a different strat I had right before this one, so I said "buck it." I wish this had a coil tap so I could still get the single coil sound in the bridge pickup. I plan to upgrade someday. |

| Yeah I tried some of those they were good. I've played this Squier on a bunch of other videos on here and it sounds pretty good on a lot of them. The problem with this video is I had the amp turned way down because it was late at night. |
