The boy is not dead at the end of the video (which is the beginning of the story). The EKG machine flatlines after she pulls of the monitors. So he's alive when she takes him off the machine. He's dying slowly and she doesn't want him to die surrounded by cold objects. She knows it's hopeless to save him, but she wants to die somewhere normal. She wants him to die naturally, not to die struggling with the aid of unhelpful machines.
