Agil Staff on WLTX

Video Description:
Columbia (WLTX) -- While many may find themselves without jobs today, one Midlands man is working to make sure that doesn't happen to our service men and women.
Ken Carey, owner of Agil Staff, works to help those coming home from war find jobs, which he says is sometimes a hard task. According to USA Today, jobless rates for veterans aged 20-24 were 15.6 percent in 2006, while the national unemployment rate was 5.1 percent. The business also prides itsel
f on being bilingual. Carey got involved with the national program "Homefront Readiness," and began the portion of his business that focuses on veterans. "I believe that every marine, soldier, sailor, or airmen deserves a shot when they get out," says retired marine Dan Ramsey, who used Agil's ser
vices. Ramsey knows that this should be the case, but after his service, he learned it often times isn't. "For me it was a little more difficult, I didn't really have any transferable skills and I didn't know what my resources were," he says. Through the program, and a non-profit Fast Forward Tech
nology Centers, Ramsey learned computer and office skills, and turning the military skills he had into civilian ones. "The management skills, stuff like that, that people in the service, they deal with everyday, but don't realize it because it's worded differently," he says. But, it wasn't just any
job that Ramsey finally landed, he now works with Agil Staff, helping others in the position he once found himself. "When it comes to the civilian work force, they realize they had the potential, they just didn't know what to call it yet," he says. For more information on the program, call Agil St
aff at 771-4289 or go to their website at www.agilstaff.com.
