BTW, some Dalits have been appointed as temple priests in recent times
there has even been a court ruling that caste is no bar to getting trained
appointed as a priest.
People should zero ... ( 7 months ago by anamikaisanonymous)
People should zero in on the few rotten apples of society (these could be people of any faith) who practice/endorse/encourage/approve discrimination and ostracize them.

thank you anamikaisanonymous for clarifying alot for me. I love Indian culture and have many Indians as acquaintences. Are all Dalits muslim??
all dalits are ... ( 6 months ago by whyraj)
all dalits are hindu, they are classified by the hindus as to be so lowly they are 'below' caste, the muslims make no caste distinctions and therefore some dalits will convert to islam to escape their low born position. i hope this helps hindu religion is very different to most of the other belief systems (judaism, islam and christianity) who all have their roots in one story
Dear friend, there ... ( 6 months ago by anamikaisanonymous)

Caste among Muslims ... ( 6 months ago by indian10101)
Caste among Muslims: Among Muslims, those who are referred to as Ashrafs are presumed to have a superior status derived from their foreign Arab ancestry, while the Ajlafs are assumed to be converts from Hinduism, and have a lower status. In addition, there is also the Arzal caste among Muslims, who are regarded as untouchables. In the Bengal region of India, some Muslims also stratify their society according to 'Quoms'. Christianity also has caste.
you are welcome! :) ( 6 months ago by anamikaisanonymous)
you are welcome! :)
1 Most Muslims ... ( 6 months ago by manimgoindowndown)
1 Most Muslims don't know their caste. If they do it is nothing more than words, we are Sheikh or descendants of Umar (RA) stuff that doesn't matter. 2. It is not institutionalized like it is in Hinduism. We know what parts the Brahmins and the Dalits came from. Okay?
manimgoig no ... ( 6 months ago by indian10101)
manimgoig no offense meant - there is social stratification in every human society. no society is a utopia of social equality. we all need to work on treating each other with respect and dignity.
your comment tells ... ( 6 months ago by indian10101)
your comment tells me that you know absolutely nothing about Hinduism except to divide and conquer. read the bhagavad geeta before expressing your thoughts on Hinduism. everyone has come from the Supreme and all parts of the supreme are equally sacred- especially the Lord's feet - we surrender to the Lord's sacred feet. "I am partial to no one. I am equal to all." (Chapter 9, Bhagavad Geeta).
for the record, ... ( 6 months ago by indian10101)
for the record, what you have mentioned is not in the Gita (the words spoken by the Supreme). According to the Gita, ANY BEING (regardless of race, religion etc) who is on the path of enlightenment is known as a Brahmin. Action/karma NOT birth determines what a human being is.
no offense taken. I ... ( 6 months ago by manimgoindowndown)
no offense taken. I just think there is a difference.
Sadly no one listened to Gandhi, and I think most of India is very far from his dream (started to happen under Nehru). In fact before the British one can make the argument that caste wasn't as stratified it was actually quite fluid.
Assalamualaikum brother
No religious ... ( 6 months ago by indian10101)
No religious scripture preaches discrimination. God does not discriminate. But the unfortunate truth is that in every human society (everywhere on earth) one finds some sort of inequalities present.
It it unfair to ... ( 6 months ago by indian10101)
It it unfair to generalize and state that everyone belonging to a particular group/class/sect/religion indulge in a particular type of behavior. The truth is that in India, there are many poor people belonging to so called upper caste
quite a few well to do educated OBC people. OBCs have also been offered special quotas/reservations in education/job sectors. Also, some of them have been trained
appointed as temple priests with more to come. With time, caste by birth will become non-issue.
Every person should ... ( 6 months ago by indian10101)
Every person should make a sincere effort to treat others with respect and dignity because the fact is that we are all brothers (regardless of race, religion, creed, country etc). Any person who is caught discriminating another person for whatever reason should not be spared - he should be taught a good lesson- only then things will improve in this world. Nice chatting with you, brother. Best wishes and prosperity to you.

I am an Indian. I can prove that Indians are racist! Indians are one of the most pretentious, holier than thou, little brown bastards you will ever meet. Don't ever let an Indian complain of racism in the west. They are racist on sino-tibetans here in India. let them deal with racism at home FIRST!! Repeal AFSPA from all northeastern states with immediate effect. You shamelessly sign the ICCPR, but allow human rights abuses to go on and then complain of racism! wa,wa! Racist Indians, go to hell!

This is so sad. So much makes sense now. When I was a senior in High School I met an Indian girl named Nisha. She and I fell deeply in love. She was born in the states and completely Americanized. She mentioned to me when we were dating that she couldn't see herself being with anyone other than an African American man (I am African American). She was so paranoid about her family finding out about our relationship and I never really understood why. After high school we went to separate
thats a sad tale ... ( 3 weeks ago by whyraj)
thats a sad tale dafame, things are not all better now by any means but there is more tolerance of people who dont adhere to caste system. my brother is a white and from the uk and his partner is a tamil man, years ago this would cause untold problems, now although they dont crow it from the roof tops (homosexuality is illegal in india) there is much more understanding by the families. incidentally i think the brits used caste system for their own ends and pre raj caste was not as draconian
