Kismet--Baubles, Bangles, and Beads

Uploaded by: Webins
Video Description:
The song "Baubles, Bangles, and Beads", from the 1955 MGM musical "Kismet", starring Howard Keel, Vic Damone, and Ann Blyth (here singing).
Written by Bob Wright and Chet (George) Forrest. The song's music is based on music by Russian composer Alexander Borodin (I believe his "String Qaurtet No.2"). Sorry the qaulity isn't tops.

Borodin composed ... ( 9 months ago by MrMoto)
Borodin composed some of the greatest Russian art songs ever written. While he wasn't prolific, it is absurd to say that he essentially wrote only one piece.

They dubber her in The Helen Morgan Story because Miss Blyth is a lyric soprano (like myself) and Helen Morgan was most likely a mezzo-soprano or contralto.

I did say "essentially".
I know and admire some of his other works like "The Steppes of Central Asia". I don't know his art songs but that's probably because in stark contrast to virtually every other great composer his reputation is based on only one piece (essentially).

Yeah, but he was still a member of the "Mighty Handful", so obviously the other four didn't consider him as amateurish in his talents atleast.
Music for Borodin ... ( 3 months ago by ecapital46)
Music for Borodin was actually a 'part time' job. He was a professor of Chemistry in St Petersburg and one of the leading supporters of student and women's rights. His home was a open house for meetings of various societal groups and individuals and he stayed so busy serving others, he seldom found time for composing. A charter member of Russia's "Famous Five" group of composers who nationalized and provided identification for its music, his Symphony #2 was a milestone in Russian composition

All girly, inside out, I have always loved the sparkle and dazzle of beautiful bobbles. I'm so glad there are 365 days a year and that I have two ears, two wrists, a neck and 10 fingers to "glitter and gleam". Thank you for this reminder of the joy of being a woman.
